La medida busca preservar las reservas de agua ante un posible fen\u00f3meno de El Ni\u00f1o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Desde este viernes, el calado m\u00e1ximo pas\u00f3 de <strong>50 pies<\/strong> a <strong>49,5 pies<\/strong> (15,09 metros). La administraci\u00f3n del canal aclar\u00f3 que el ajuste no modifica el n\u00famero de tr\u00e1nsitos diarios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La reducci\u00f3n responde a los niveles actuales y proyectados del <strong>lago Gat\u00fan<\/strong>, principal fuente de agua para la v\u00eda interoce\u00e1nica. Tambi\u00e9n abastece a m\u00e1s de la mitad de la poblaci\u00f3n paname\u00f1a.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La Autoridad del Canal explic\u00f3 que la medida forma parte de las acciones preventivas implementadas desde diciembre de 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El organismo advirti\u00f3 que un episodio fuerte de <strong>El Ni\u00f1o<\/strong> podr\u00eda desarrollarse durante el segundo semestre de 2026. Adem\u00e1s, podr\u00eda extenderse hasta 2027 y afectar la disponibilidad de recursos h\u00eddricos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aunque el impacto operativo ser\u00e1 limitado, algunos buques deber\u00e1n reducir su carga para cumplir con el nuevo calado autorizado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La administraci\u00f3n estima que la medida afectar\u00e1 a menos del <strong>1,7%<\/strong> de los buques neopanamax que transitan por la v\u00eda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El Canal de Panam\u00e1 moviliza entre el <strong>3% y el 5%<\/strong> del comercio mar\u00edtimo mundial. Por ello, cualquier ajuste operativo es seguido de cerca por la industria log\u00edstica internacional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La decisi\u00f3n recuerda las restricciones aplicadas en 2023, cuando una intensa sequ\u00eda oblig\u00f3 a reducir el calado hasta <strong>44 pies<\/strong> y disminuir los tr\u00e1nsitos diarios.
