Tendr\u00e1 una longitud aproximada de 14.800 kil\u00f3metros; una capacidad de 144 terabytes por segundo y una vida \u00fatil estimada de 25 a\u00f1os. Las obras est\u00e1n previstas para iniciar este a\u00f1o y concluir en 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El Cable Humboldt busca posicionar a Chile como un hub digital regional; fortaleciendo su rol como puerta directa entre Latinoam\u00e9rica, Asia y Ocean\u00eda. El ministro chileno de Transportes y Telecomunicaciones, Juan Carlos Mu\u00f1oz, destac\u00f3 que el proyecto mejorar\u00e1 la resiliencia de las comunicaciones y fortalecer\u00e1 la soberan\u00eda digital del pa\u00eds; especialmente considerando la vulnerabilidad de Chile ante fen\u00f3menos naturales como terremotos y deslizamientos submarinos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Patricio Rey, gerente general de Desarrollo Pa\u00eds, se\u00f1al\u00f3 que en un contexto geopol\u00edtico complejo es clave robustecer las comunicaciones nacionales; y record\u00f3 que los principales socios comerciales de Chile se encuentran en Asia, con la excepci\u00f3n de Estados Unidos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El proyecto fue anunciado por el presidente Gabriel Boric en enero; aunque se origin\u00f3 en 2016 durante el segundo mandato de Michelle Bachelet. En 2017, Huawei explor\u00f3 la factibilidad y propuso Shangh\u00e1i como destino, pero la iniciativa no avanz\u00f3 con esa empresa.
