Este encuentro es  organizado por la Administraci\u00f3n Nacional de Puertos (ANP) de Uruguay y  por la Comisi\u00f3n Interamericana de Puertos (CIP) de la Organizaci\u00f3n de  los Estados Americanos (OEA). Los principales objetivos de esta Tercera Conferencia Hemisf\u00e9rica fueron difundir t\u00e9cnicas y metodolog\u00edas de gesti\u00f3n ambiental portuaria y destacar los avances realizados por los Estados Miembros a nivel  de sus gobiernos sobre la gesti\u00f3n del ambiente. Adem\u00e1s, se busc\u00f3 identificar problemas frecuentes que enfrentan  los Estados Miembros en el cumplimiento de las normas y los est\u00e1ndares  internacionales de protecci\u00f3n ambiental portuaria, procurando soluciones  a los mismos, a trav\u00e9s de las experiencias, nuevas tecnolog\u00edas y  mejores pr\u00e1cticas llevadas a cabo en el mundo. Se destac\u00f3 tambi\u00e9n la interacci\u00f3n entre la protecci\u00f3n ambiental, la  seguridad y la eficiencia en la gesti\u00f3n ambiental portuaria, como  elementos para disminuir los impactos ambientales y adoptar medidas  tendientes a la protecci\u00f3n del medio fluvial, marino, costero y  portuario.
